ArtWalk

Artwalk is an annual event on the second Sunday of November. It is open to artists from Watts Hospital-Hillandale (WHH), Old West Durham (OWD), and from other neighborhoods if you are showing with someone from WHH or OWD.

Artists show their works at their homes or at host houses in the neighborhoods. Art lovers from the two neighborhoods and other neighborhoods and cities stroll or drive from house to house.

Artists from Watts Hospital-Hillandale and Old West Durham receive preference for participation and pay a reduced fee of $25. Others pay $35 and any artist under age 18 pays $15.

The money from application fees is a donation to the Watts-Hospital Hillandale Neighborhood Association.

Application is published in September and the deadline for applying is mid-October. Exact dates are communicated each year.

We encourage artists to show at their own home or studio. We have found in past ArtWalks that artists showing north of the Hillandale Golf Course have not generated enough traffic to make their efforts worthwhile so we encourage locations south of the golf course. Residents are generous in offering to host artists at their homes. To find a potential host, we recommend a note on one of the neighborhood listservs.

 

We encourage sharing space. It's more fun for the artists and enticing to customers. No more than 3-4 artists in one location seems to be just right.  Also consider hosting neighborhood artists who are under 18 years of age.

 

ArtWalk depends on volunteers who post and remove signs, put up flyers, distribute stacks.
